Shriek refused and attempted to convince Nieves to not hurt her but Tanis decided to force the matter by making Frances release her blast. After bonding with her, she came to be referred to as Scorn where she decided to help in the battle against by Carnage by having Shriek unleash a sonic blast at him. Thus, Tanis allowed it to bond with her in order to stop Shriek who was using her powers to start a riot gathering. Within Shriek's grasp, she managed to hear the Symbiotic limb that Frances had with her and took it back as the spawn wanted Nieves to be its first host. Doing what it asked the prosthetic started breaking the container he was in and touched a piece of his body to make him active and started bonding with Tanis. Her arm then started to strangle Tanis and in fear asked what it wanted to her response it pointed to Carnage. As the scientists were trying to make the arm budge, the symbiote started killing everyone. While trying to convince them to let her out her prosthetic arm wouldn't remove itself from the window of the control room. Once there she saw what they were doing to Shriek and demanded to see her. Her prosthetic starting giving her hallucinations of her colleagues dead while on her way to Hall Industries M.D. She lost her right arm trying to figure out what was happening to Shriek, and then her arm was replaced bio-mechanical arm that was created from Carnage. Tanis Nieves was a psychiatrist assigned to Shriek. Received a prototype prosthetic arm made with the Carnage symbiote. This led to her eventually becoming a head doctor at the Ravencroft Institute where she cared for her patients. (Carnage v1 #5) By the age of 26, she came to qualify as a psychiatrist and sought to help psychologically wounded people in the world.
(Carnage v1 #3) When she was older, she came to learn that the dog was aggressive by nature with it having snapped at her whenever she brushed it and that it once bit her baby brother's face which was why the family had to put it down. The young Nieves came to believe that the dog needed her to love him.
This led to Tanis screaming and crying with her biting the vet's hand causing her family to allow her to take the dog back home with her. Her parents had allowed her to come with it where the vet stated that they were going to put the animal to sleep. (Carnage v1 #5) When she was 6 years old, she found a maimed dog with three legs and one eye which they took the pound. Tanis Nieves was a female human who lived in the modern age as one of the Nieves family with her having a younger brother.
